Mary's Swap meet

So today I went to my favorite place....Mary's Swap Meet.  I love this place and I got to go with my friend Harold.  Harold met me there.  For people who don't know Harold he is a family friend of my husbands.  He is older than me and has two boy grandbabies.  He said something to me at Mary's that made me think...he said Shawna this is why I like you..You like all kinds of people.  It was funny to me because I think it is so true.  I have always been friends with all kinds of different people.  I really don't judge anyone because who am I to judge.  I hang out with some people that have way more than me and rather than feeling jealous I really think I am happy for them.  I also hang out with people that I have way more than them.  I just really love variety.  I think Harold thought this today because if you have never been to Mary's Swap Meet you would be totally surprised.  It is not pretty...it is JUNKY and a lot of weirdos out there....MY KIND OF PLACE!  It is outside and dirty.  My dad really got me to love the place and now everytime I go out there I think of my dad.  So today I spent a dollar...yep one dollar!  Here is my findings.  Oh so I don't ever proof read my posts so if there are misspellings and other English grammer stuff...just get over it.  If you know me you know I don't care.

My butter dish for $1

BUSY!

I have been sooo busy lately.  I have a lot to do today with the first day of summer break for my little guy.  This is my last summer with him before he goes to all day school.  I get so depressed thinking about it.  So I want to make his room super cute.  He has been wanting a bunk bed for a long time so I think we might just get him one.  I like this room.  I love the curtains too!
So today we will go to the Pirate Parade in downtown Moore and then to Braums.  I am signing my boys up for the summer reading program.  We will be busy!  I can't wait.

Marilyn's baby shower

SO I am very excited to say that I am planning a couple barbeque baby shower.  I am already planning this fun event in my head and I love it.  Marilyn is not a girly girl so this will be perfect for her.  She just wants something everyone can enjoy and relax.  Oh Target how I love you...I have found so many things there for the shower.  Here are some ideas...

Baby shower

I have been so busy lately and haven't had time to post...hopefully things have calmed down and I can start posting everyday.  My sister in laws baby is due in three months and that means I need to start planning the shower.  I am very excited because I can do this on my own and really have fun with it.  Here are some things I was thinking about.  I just might have a couples shower!  Who knows!

I could have a tractor party...or my youngest little guy would love this kind of birthday party.

hot tamale pie

1 c. chopped onion

1 c. chopped green pepper

2 – 8oz. cans tomato sauce

1 – 12oz can whole kernel corn, drained

½ c. pitted ripe black olives, chopped

1 clove garlic, minced

1 T. sugar

1 tsp. salt

2-3 tsp. chili powder

Dash pepper

Cook meat, onion, and green pepper in large skillet till meat is lightly browned and vegetables are tender. Stir in tomato sauce, corn, olives, garlic, sugar, the 1 tsp. salt, chili powder, pepper. Simmer 20-25 minutes or until thick. Add cheese; stir till melted. Turn into greased 9x9x2 baking dish.

Topping:

6 oz. sharp American cheese, shredded (1 ½ cups)

¾ c. yellow cornmeal

½ tsp. salt

2 c. cold water

1 T. margarine

Stir cornmeal and ½ tsp. salt into cold water. Cook, stirring constantly, till thick. Add butter or margarine; mix well. Spoon over hot meat mixture. (My recipe card doesn’t say what to do with the cheese and I can’t remember! I do know that ever since I moved to GA, the topping never turned out the way it did when I lived in Ohio and in Ohio it tasted better! So I am wondering if the cheese went into the cornmeal mixture after the butter was added. If not, then it was just sprinkled on top, but that seems like a lot of cheese to put on top of a square baking dish. Let me know what you find out!)

Bake at 375 degrees for 40 minutes.

creamy chicken and bacon pastry pocket

Creamy Chicken and Bacon Pastry Pockets

Recipe by Our Best Bites

1 box puff pastry (2 sheets)

1 8oz container Philadelphia Chive and Onion flavor Cream Cheese

1/2 C shredded mozzarella cheese

1 1/2 C cooked shredded chicken breast

1/3 C cooked crumbled bacon

3 Tbs finely chopped sun-dried tomatoes

1 egg

1 Tbs water

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Warm cream cheese in the microwave for 20-30 seconds to soften. Place in a mixing bowl with mozzarella cheese, chicken, bacon, and sun-dried tomatoes. Stir to combine and set aside.

Defrost puff pastry sheets according to package directions. Lightly dust a work surface with flour and roll one sheet at a time into a 12 x 12 inch square. Cut 4, 3 inch strips each direction to make 16 squares, 3 x 3" each.

Place about 2 teaspoons of cream cheese mixture onto each square. With your finger, brush a dab of water around the edges of each square and fold over diagonally to make a triangle. Press edges together and crimp with a fork to seal.

After stuffing and folding each pastry, place on a baking sheet. Whisk egg and 1 tablespoon water together and brush over the top of each pastry. Bake in preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until puffed and golden brown. Cool 10 minutes before serving. Can also be served at room temperature.

Freezer instructions: Follow directions through egg wash. Place baking sheet in the freezer. When pastries are solid to the touch, transfer to an airtight container and store in the freezer. When ready to bake, place frozen pastries directly on a baking sheet in preheated 400 degree oven and bake for 15-20 minutes or until puffed and golden.

Before and after computer room pics

I worked on my computer room this week...It is not perfect but I didn't spend a dime so I am happy!

Here is the before pics

I know it looks bad huh?  Oh and here is a pic of my .50 cent lamp I got at a garage sale.
It had an ugly white lamp shade with it.  I decided to spray paint both and I really liked the way it turned out.
I can tell that I need to put something around the edge of the lamp shade.  Okay here are some after shots of the computer room.  I painted the computer desk...I put paper behind the book shelf.  Oh and I tried to hide computer cords by putting fabric behind the computer desk.  Still working on getting a new light for the room but for now it is still the ugly brown fan.
